Making money online is the new American Dream.

No boss, no college degree, no startup capital — you just need to know where to start.

Although I had previously started a startup that was well-recognized (NBCNews, USA Today), embarrassingly enough, we didn’t monetize the product in three years.

So when it came to actually making money online, I was a newbie as well.

As my startup was fledgling I decided to drive for Lyft, not knowing what my next move would be.

Driving Lyft is not the American Dream, but it opened the door to accessing the American Dream.

On a rare day off from driving, I figured I would share my experience driving Lyft and give people transparency into the hours, pay, riders and program, Lyft Express, where you rent a car through Lyft and if you make enough rides you get the car for basically $50 a week.

I put the video on YouTube (my background in marketing helped with this as rather than make the title general, I made it very niche knowing there was a lot of other videos from Lyft drivers) and stuffed a referral/affiliate code in the description.

At the time, Lyft was offering bonuses of up to $700 for referrals who hit certain milestones.

My expectations for this video were low, as there were a lot of other YouTube videos by Lyft drivers, and I had never…
